Suggestions for 80th birthday celebration near The Depot

Our siblings are planning to treat our 80-year-old father and mother to a small reunion at The Depot hotel July 17-19. I would appreciate your suggestions for some low-cost and uncomplicated excursions for 10-12 people to do on Friday afternoon and Saturday. I have looked at some websites, but I would appreciate some input from people who know the area well. The people who are coming are from a variety of places across the US (LA, Chicago, WA, KS, IA) and rarely get together, and I would like for them to have a nice impression of the Twin Cities. The reason we chose The Depot was because our father is a former American history professor, and we thought history would be a fun theme. Do you have suggestions for some simple excursions that don%26#39;t involve a lot of walking? I%26#39;d also love some suggestions for good, but inexpensive, restaurants close by that could accommodate a dozen people and aren%26#39;t too noisy. Thanks so much!

Something really great but I am not sure if it is in your price range is going to a play at The Guthrie Theatre. They have a real cute one going on during that weekend you are in town and prices are $29-$34 for fri evening or Sat. afternoon. This would accomplish the shock and awe effect you are going for. Here is a synopsis;

Set on a September evening around 1908, J.B. Priestley%26#39;s farcical comedy takes place in the sitting-room of Alderman Helliwell%26#39;s house. Old friends - the Helliwells, the Parkers and the Soppitts - gather to celebrate the three couples%26#39; silver wedding anniversaries. Gerald Forbes, the chapel organist and choir master, has been courting the Helliwells%26#39; niece Nancy a bit too conspicuously. But when Gerald is chastised for his behavior, he riles up the party, revealing a shocking truth to these uptight Victorian gentlemen. The secret spreads and soon each couple%26#39;s relationship is rigorously and hilariously tested to its limit. An accomplished British novelist, essayist and playwright, J.B. Priestley is perhaps best known for his play AN INSPECTOR CALLS. Written in 1938, WHEN WE ARE MARRIED remains an audience favorite

The Old Spaghetti Factory is affordable and good for groups. Their meals include salad, bread, and dessert. It is close to your hotel too!

Thank you for your suggestions! I think our parents will really enjoy this celebration, and the visitors from out of state will enjoy their stay in Minneapolis.
