I want to plan a special in-town getaway as a surprise for my husband for our anniversary. Anyone have thoughts on the Graves 601 vs. the W Hotel?
Thanks!
Graves 601 vs. W Hotel
I can%26#39;t give you a fair recommendation of one over the other. It usually comes down to taste anyway for people. I stayed at the W last weekend in a double room and hung out for a bit in a suite. The style wasn%26#39;t quite for me but a few friends were blown away. I thought the suite was a weird shape -- long, like a corridor rather than a more squarish space that would feel larger to me. The double room seemed just plain small. The bathroooms are awesome though.
That said, all the amenities were there. The service we got was first class. And you have excellent nightlife in the form of two bar/lounges that are the chic place to be in Mpls these days. What a plus that is to have those places in the place you%26#39;re staying.
The location is great too. But I%26#39;d suggest parking across the street if you stay there, in the lost over Hells Kitchen. I paid (pre-pay) $5 to leave my car overnight. The price at the W is $28 a night. Yowch!!
As for the Graves, I just think it looks cool. I would suggest you read through all the reviews and view the pictures to get a better feel of what appeals to you. That always helps me.

I meant park in the RAMP over Hell%26#39;s Kitchen, on 9th Street. But please make sure the same deal is on. For me it was a pre-pay of $5 and no charge upon exiting in the morning.
Thank you for your honest opinions and the suggestion for parking, I%26#39;ll look into it!
the rooms will be bigger with graves
they are both high-end hotels
the W will be hoppin
as it%26#39;s so new
the first floor lobby bar gets crowded on weekend nights, and there%26#39;s the new Manny%26#39;s Steakhouse that moved in / attached
and a fun bar up on 27th.
but I%26#39;ve heard the W rooms are tiny and dark
smallish and dark on the double room I stayed in. In the suite I spent time in darkness was not the issue at all. More window space per square foot than any room I%26#39;ve stayed in. It%26#39;s a corridor-like suite that we were in, with windows the length of it. Great views. Not as much room as some suites (or maybe it didn%26#39;t feel like it) but very cool to have all those windows. Pretty sure that suite ran the length of the 26th floor.
I like The Grand or Ivy Hotel better for romance. Check them out if you are still open for another option. I would pick the Graves 601 and I have stayed in both places. The Graves has a better location.
