Clamshell Beach Resort

We stayed last year (2008) at Clamshell Beach Resort and found the accomodations OK but the owner of this resort to be rude in his business manner. Our cabin was clean, but very worn down. They are in the process of ';flipping'; this old resort to a new ';fractional ownership'; property and while the new accomodations are lovey, I would venture to guess that with the current owner, Dave, at the helm, it would not be the best place to buy. The new cabins are very large and geared toward family reunion or multiple family vacations. None of the new cabins is the size for our family of 5. In addition, Dave has a very abrupt business manner. He is a ';my way or the high way'; kind of guy. He carries a heavy stick and wields it as well. We decided to try and give their resort another try this summer (2009) as our kids enjoyed it and it%26#39;s not too far of a drive from our Mpls home. I started e mailing early Feb 09 and decided on a different cabin at the recommendation of Lisa (Dave%26#39;s wife). We then booked our week vacation at the cabin that Lisa recommended. Approx 3 weeks later we received an e mail from Dave inquiring about us booking yet a different cabin. When we told him we had already booked a cabin, and provided him with an e mail confirmation of our booking, he told us we were wrong. We called him several times and left voice mail messages, but he would only corresond with us via e mail. Dave then asserted his ';my way or the highway'; attitude and bull-dozed right over our e mail confirmation insisting we did not have a confirmed reservation, even though we had an e mail from Lisa confirming our reservation. He then said we should look elsewhere to stay. He is rude, arrogant and a bully. Three characteristics that we do not associate with a family-owned, family-oriented resort. We will not go back and do not recommend this resort as a family vacation destination as he certainly does not reflect our family values.

If you liked the lake and the area, I suggest trying Towering Pines Resort. It%26#39;s owned by a friend of mine. Very family oriented as the owners have young kids themselves. :-)
