Houseboats

My family and I would like to rent a houseboat this summer. Do you have any suggests?

Houseboats

No personal experience from me to suggest, but you can go to www.exploreminnesota.com (official state of MN tourism site) and enter into the search field ';houseboat rental';. That will give you some companies to check out.

Houseboats

I was on one once. Unfortunately I have no knowledge of how to go about renting them. Our trip was on Kabetogama (gorgeous lake) and up to Kettle Falls.

I think they are banned from VNP, try Rainy Lake on the Canada US border.

We spent a few days exploring VNP last summer - sadly not by houseboat and unless something has changed for 2009 you can navigate most all of Rainy %26amp; Kabetogama via houseboat. It really looked like fun! Your first decision is pick which lake on which you want to spend your time, IIRC it is not possible get a houseboat from Rainy to Kabetogama. However you can get to Kettle Falls from either lake.

Two quick observations from our time there:

1) The mosquitoes were thick

2) Pack more warm clothes than you think you%26#39;ll need.

Here is a link to the VNP website:

Here are a couple of sites I found - We heard good things about Ebel%26#39;s from both patrons and staff at the park - but take it for what it%26#39;s worth as I%26#39;ve never been on one. :)

A search on Google using ';houseboats voyageur national'; will give you information on renting houseboats on Rainy Lake, Kabetogama, and Crane Lake. I%26#39;ve seen one of the marinas that rent them for use on Kabetogama on the Ash River, but I%26#39;ve not rented from and of them.

We have rented houseboats in California on several occasions and we too were considering a trip to Minn, it looks like the Voyageurs National Park has lots of great places to explore......Just wanted to let you know what changed our minds.....the houseboat rental places require that you also rent (or bring your own) motorized boat to drag behind the houseboat.....We had planned to ';splurge'; by renting one, but now it%26#39;s just too expensive for our budget.....also be prepared for that final gasoline fill up at the end of the trip !!.......Otherwise, houseboating is a wonderful family vacation....
