Info about Holiday Inn Express Downtown & area

I will be staying at the Holiday Inn Express in downtown Minneapolis in April for the Twins game. I am from Minnesota but not familiar with downtown Minneapolis. We chose the hotel because we%26#39;d like to stay downtown and they have a great deal that day - a room for $72! We are looking for cheap but good restaurants/bars not too far away from the hotel because I have a broken foot and will be unable to walk a long distance. Is the best bet Nicollet Mall? Are there any Applebee%26#39;s, TGI Friday%26#39;s, etc. in the area? Also, would it be quickest to walk to the Dome or what kind of transportation would be the best bet? Taxi, bus, light rail (if so, how far away is the nearest station?)?

This hotel is nice and fairly new. It%26#39;s close to the Convention Center. For meals, try Hells Kitchen for breakfast (what they are known for), but also open thru dinner. There IS a Friday in Block E, but consider a non-chain place - Brits, the Local, Masa, even the SkyRoom at Macy%26#39;s 12th floor - HUGE salad bar - open during lunch.

You could walk to the dome, but best bet would be inexpensive taxi ride.

The light rail line is on 5th street, and I think your hotel is on 10th or 11th?? You%26#39;d have to walk up to 5th and catch it at the Govt. Center, or Nic. Mall station.

How much is parking at that HolidayInn Express? I%26#39;ve heard that offsets some of the room savings.

Parking is $12 at the Holiday Inn but they only have 31 spots for 90-some rooms. There is a parking lot across the street that also charges $12 but it does not have in-and-out priviledges.

Nicollet Mall would be your best bet for nearby food options. To answer your question on Applebee%26#39;s and TGIF%26#39;s, there is not one of either of those chains in the downtown Minneapolis area.

Given the foot situation, probably your best bet would be a taxi. I believe minimum fare is $5.00, which would be basically the same as two rail fares (I think), and you don%26#39;t have to walk the 6 blocks to the station.

Sorry, DTMpls is correct about the Friday%26#39;s in Block E. That said, you%26#39;ll walk past a number of quality restaurants to get to Friday%26#39;s.
