i need advice

is minnesotas winters that bad as colardao which would be better? i prefer minnesota but i dont know about the winter

MN winters are likely colder and longer. We%26#39;re almost always guaranteed 2 months of very cold weather. The rest of the winter months can be a toss-up but are tolerable. However, that%26#39;s relative considering you%26#39;re in Texas right now.

From what I understand, Colorado has more snow but is much more temperate, milder. I enjoy skiing out there because it%26#39;s warmer. That of course changes in the higher elevations.

A LOT depends on WHERE in Colorado because topography really affects the local climate and weather. Anyhere east of the front range can get occasional downslope compressional heating (aka Chinook winds) which can bring fairly warms days in any part of Winter. With the exception of very local areas near Buffalo Ridge in SW Minn. this does not happen. Mostly in MN it will stay cold for a month or two at a time with little relief. This year we%26#39;ve not been above freezing even once in January.

On the other hand easterly winds blowing UP the front range can bury Denver or Boulder under snowfall amounts seldom seen in MN. Of course the next downslope wind usually soon starts melting it.

Colorado also seldom sees the truly bitter cold intrusions from Canada that last for days an days such as we%26#39;ve seen this past month. Strings of days where it does not get aboce zero. Very early this morning when I left Hinkley, MN it was -18F and every 5 miles or so down to St. Paul it rose one degree to a balmy four below. Next time it actually gets to +32 I%26#39;ll probably want to wear shorts. ;)

Note...old addage, if you are not comfortable with cold never live somewhere wher they have to put a plus sign in front of the temperature on bank signs. It implies negative can happen. Warm places assume temps are always positive.

MN (and other cold places) Trivia...ever wonder why the signs read -0 or +0? Most signs are programmed to use +0 when last reading was -1 to indicate ';going up'; and -0 after +1 for ';going down';. In other words whenever it hits zero it flips the sign from what it last was. Not just anywhere is it that people care about which sort of zero it is.

My in-laws live in Dever and I have been there many times during the winter months. The weather there is a lot better!

So where would you say is better to live??

The 2 places are different. Minnesota is all about Scandanavian conservative. The place is incredably cold in winter and hot in August. The state flower is a coffee can lid with crochet work around it. Minnesotans tend towards practical which makes sense given the rigorous climate. Minnesota is flat and Colorado has mountains. Ya sure you betcha.
